CFL: WEEK TWO PREDICTIONS
SASKATCHEWAN @ OTTAWA: Thursday June 21st 7:30PM:
Fortified by a week one sinking of the Boatmen in Regina, the Roughies ride East to Ottawa to take on the Lumbermen, who will kick off their 2018 campaign. The move to greener pastures appears to have rejuvenated quarterback Zach Collaros, who looked quite comfortable directing the Rider offense last week. If he feels as comfortable at the helm of the green and white this week on the road, the Red and Black will have their hands full at home. Both of these squads are well-balanced on offense, but the Riders defense were at the top of their game last week, sparking the Saskatchewan victory over the defending Grey Cup Champions. The Redblacks will require a similar effort from their defensive crew this week, to claim a win at home. Ottawa by 10: 35-25.
WINNIPEG @ MONTREAL: Friday June 22nd 7:00PM:
The biggest surprise of week one for those of us not on the Winnipeg coaching staff had to be the poise demonstrated by the Bombers freshman pilot, Chris Streveler. Despite the herculean efforts of Mother Nature, the rookie refused to be rattled during the pigskin marathon against the Eskimos in Winnipeg last week. This week, Streveler leads the Bomber assault on Montreal. With Drew Willy at the helm the Als came out flying against the Lions in Vancouver last week, but they faded quickly and were held off the scoresheet after the first quarter. The Bombers array of offensive weapons will dominate this contest. Winnipeg by 15: 31-16.
HAMILTON @ EDMONTON: Friday June 22nd 10:00PM:
For the Hamilton Tiger-Cats it is a simple case of jumping from the frying pan into the fire. After being stampeded in the fourth quarter last week in Calgary, the offensively anemic Cats slink up the road to the Alberta capital to do battle with the Eskimos. Edmonton weathered a Bomber offensive storm scare in Winnipeg last week before sealing a victory in the dying seconds of the game with a field goal. Edmonton by 14: 35-21.
CALGARY @ TORONTO: Saturday, June 23th 7:00PM:
The Stampeders gallop into Toronto to take on the defending Grey Cup champions, after riding roughshod over the Ti-Cats in the fourth quarter to lasso a victory in the corral. In Regina last week, the Argo offense appeared water-logged and out of sync when the Riders employed a fired-up, relentless defense to keep the Boatmen off balance. The Double Blue can expect more of the same from the Calgary defense this week. Calgary by 10: 29-19.
FANTASY PICKS-Week Two
Some pick suggestions:
QB- MIKE REILLY, Edmonton: Completed 32 of 46 passes with one TD in week one against Winnipeg. The veteran could have a big night against Hamilton at home.
REC- DEREL WALKER, Edmonton: Reilly's favourite target caught 8 passes for 176 yards and one TD in week one.
SLEEPER- CHRIS STREVELER, Winnipeg: Rookie QB completed 15 of 28 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Also rushed for 30 yards on 7 carries vs. Edmonton in week one. Could surprise Alouettes.
